About Us - Importance to our Commmunity

There are a large number of citizen recognition events that transpire every year in Calgary. For the most part, they are temporal and for "live" nominees.

The Alberta Champions recognition is unique in several ways:

1. Nominees can be from as far back as 1867 (Confederation) and all have passed on.
2. Alberta Champions Society will honour those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the quality of life and development of our city. In the telling of their stories, we will be laying the groundwork for the history of Calgary as it was written by those chosen to be Alberta Champions.
3. The wheat stalk of recognition is a stately and durable symbol of Calgary's past and it will be created in polished, durable steel to add beauty to the Calgary landscape.
4. These monuments will make our history readily accessible in the community and serve to inspire our future Alberta Champions, Calgary's youth.
5. The Fields of Fame will provide an ongoing means of recognizing the contributions of Calgarians well into the future.
6. After we launch the Fields of Fame in Calgary, we plan to expand it to other parts of Alberta.
